Seal Beach sits on the coast as the gateway to Orange County between the cities of Long Beach and Huntington Beach. With a population of 25,098, Seal Beach celebrates its 95th anniversary in October 2010. Governed by a five member council/city manager form of government, who are elected by district, Seal Beach has retained its quaint, small-town atmosphere. Seal Beach is the home of Leisure World, a gated senior citizen community of approximately 7-10,000 persons. The Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station comprises 2/3 of the land within the City.
There is one elementary school within the City, McGaugh Elementary, within the Los Alamitos Unified School District. Shopping is available to residents through many neighborhood shopping centers – Old Town’s Main Street, Bay City Center, Shore Village Center, Zoeter Plaza, Von’s Pavilion Center, Rossmoor Shopping Center, and the Leisure World Center.
Major employers in the City are Boeing and the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. Recreation is varied and abundant in Seal Beach with the focus of attraction being the municipal pier. The main beach provides one mile of white sandy beaches attracting nearly one million tourists per year. Surfside provides an additional 3/4 of a mile of sandy beach. There is one private golf course and 7 tennis courts along with l3 public parks.
